In chastising Senator John Kerry for making politically self-serving comments in reaction to the recent Osama bin Laden tape, David Brooks says, "Even in this shocking moment, this echo of Sept. 11, Kerry saw his political opportunities and he took 'em."

You mean, unlike President Bush, who saw his "political opportunities" and used the immediate aftermath of 9/11 - including the pain and grief of the victims' families, and the fear of possible further attacks - to ram through an ultra-conservative political agenda for which he had little or no mandate, to say nothing of starting an unprovoked, pre-emptive and illegal war against a sovereign nation?

Is Mr. Brooks familiar with the phrase "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?"
