The Race for President - A reply to an email

Suzanne,

As we are going to be governed by whomever for 4 to 8 years I welcome the continued debates. Further they go along we will learn more about each candidate. This will help to make our final decision. I have already decided but I could change if something else of substance appears.
You are right about the media. They are the major problem. They have continually betrayed the public in their pursuit of ratings to help the bottom line.
Media disinformation is probably the most serious problem in this country. It has been made worse by the massing of great conglomerates who are, due their cumbersome size, insensitive to the truth and beholden to the politicians in power. This has been increasing since the late 60’s. I am not ignoring such as the Hearst press of the past however in those days there were plenty of independent media. Without the Internet can you imagine where we would be today - really in the dark.
Let us recognize the major blame lies with ourselves - the American public. Too many do not take the time to study the political scene enough to make decisions which really benefit the country and themselves.
I am very well, thanks for asking.
Love,
Michael

Dear Michael,

As someone who is deeply entrenched in politics (I mean that in a good way) what do you think about the current brouhaha between Clinton and Obama? I know that it is exciting because for the first time, people are voting in record numbers, but it’s also ugly because of the turn that the race has taken. Initially, I was looking for information daily. It was exciting, and I wanted to hear what the candidates had to say. As time has gone on, I’ve found myself turning the channel when another negative story was on news. While the candidates are not necessarily getting along, I believe that part of the blame (a huge part) goes to the media. They love drama. I think that the media is in the wrong profession, and should be writing soap operas instead. I just wanted to know what your thoughts are on the subject. By the way, how are you doing? Take care.

Love,

Suzanne
