Again, you could atribute this to a reaction against the 60’s and 70’s. However, the instigators of these new controls have been the Left Wing, not the Right.
Posted on 08-Mar-08 at 2:56 am | PermalinkI think we must go back to Orwells ‘1984′, to examine how social control works, and conclude that in essence it doesn’t have a conservative or radical sticker.
In the UK, which I know most about, it was Tony Blair the leader of the left wing, Labour party who launched us into this futile war in Iraq,
and it is his sucessor who refuses to have a referendum on Europe, which his party catagorically promised at the last election.
In France, repeated doses of socialism have brought the country economic stagnation, and riots over inequality issues. Now they have had to install a far more right wing man, Mr Sarcosi to try to ‘get them back to the garden’, so to speak.
When one looks back at the American Presidency, in the most recent times there has been a two term Democrat, and now a two term Republican. Under GWB, we have seen the right wing reach the most absurd fundementalist position, and it is extraordinary is that so many Americans go for it. Nevertheless Bill Clinton’s two terms in office suggest that a right wing plan has not been such a finely calculated thing.
At the end of the day, there are just a lot of conservative minded people in America, and I would equate them with the conservative minded left wing population that is prevelant in Europe.
In both cases, the trick must be to wake these people up to their loss of liberty. If that doesn’t happen, the battle can’t be won because there are so many of them, and that counts in a Democracy.
In recent times, America has had a two term Democrat President and a two term Republican President, which possibly indicates that any right wing plan is not working so perfectly.

Perhaps it is best to refer to Orwells ‘1984′ to see how ‘Big Brother’ has no real political allegiance. Any political philosophy can be perverted to achieve their ends.
