One Response to “Give Peace A Chance”

Really…Don’t tell me you’re getting all misty-eyed over this outrageous unprovoked, pre-emptive war! “You’re what we’re fighting for?” I think not. Or maybe that is what they were told, or thought they were doing. But we know that is as far from the truth as anything can possibly be.

“We all need your support?” Hey, I’m all for separating the difference between the troops and the politics behind their presence in Iraq. And I fully support any soldier who ended up there in the first year or two and has gotten caught up in over-long deployments or second or third deployments, or any soldier or National Guardsman who ended up there without any choice.

However, I cannot in good conscience support anyone who voluntarily enlisted once we knew the truth about Iraq - i.e., that there were never any WMDs, that there was no link between Hussein and Al Qaeda, that military intelligence was deliberately phonied up, etc. Anyone who enlisted after this knew darn well that it was not “us” or “freedom” or “democracy” or any other noble belief that has kept us there.

Yes, I’m as heartbroken as anyone over many of the images here - mostly beause they are, or should have been, unnecessary. But sappy sentimentalism is misplaced in the face of such an outrage.

    Peace.
