Well, finally President Bush has finally said we are going to be in Baghdad for a long time. It likens the position to the North Korea situation. This has been floated as a new thought. It is not new. This is a plan from day one when this administration lied it's way into this war. Now look at what has suddenly been made public. A last minute idea? No way- this compound rivals the Vatican in size. The worlds largest embassy from where the Viceroy will issue the American Imperial edits. MB

Palestine is a hot point in our relations with the Moslem world. Globalization is a world wide problem for American relations with the entire world. It is viewed by the majority as just an extension of The American Empire. World domination by America through economic means. Just ask the maize (corn) farmers of Mexico for an example.
I have been keeping one article "The Establishment Rethinks Globalization" intending to send it soon with my comments. However Mike Blaxill, a Civic Editor, sent "Globalization and Democracy" which is so pertinent that I felt it best to submit them both for your perusal.
I was a believer as the wolf was always sold as a sheep. It turned to be the wolf is in sheep's clothing. Free Trade was the mantra. Trade not Aid another slogan. Globalization has not turned out to be Free Trade. It has become economic imperialism-a way of colonial empire without the military. There are exceptions as in Iraq the prize of oil was just too great (besides Saddam-our erstwhile alley-was messing with putting his oil in euros instead of dollars).
These two articles show different positions: Mike's couples it with democracy while the second shows some doubts from the establishment.
For sure the effect of the present unbalanced system (for example the agriculture subsidies in developed countries) is widening the canyon between the poor and the rich. I keep warning there are many more poor than rich both in people and in countries. Sooner or later there is going to be demand of equalization-hopefully without violence. MB

Another War story! We seem to be fighting with many. When the newest War Czar is appointed by Bush he also discussed the War on Drugs being an ongoing responsibility. This failing War has cost the lives of many in the world's largest prison system. The largest group of our prisoners are those in for drug offenses. A large number for small offenses while the king pins go free. Also let us mention the continued attacks against farmers trying to make a living through the best cash crop they can sell. Meanwhile alcohol and nicotine cause large numbers of deaths while marijuana has never killed anyone. What is happening with our policy? We are protecting a large industry profiting from destruction. Just like the armament business the Drug War damages more than it creates except to make some benefit from the vast amounts of money thrown at it. Of course few, if any, are opposed to this strategy-there is too much money in it.
What attention is paid to other practical courses like education, legalizing and taxing, medical treatment and assistance to local growers. Of course if those methods were used they would bring the price down and then the obscene profit would go out of it.
A current example would be the growth and use of opium for medical purposes which would help the Afghans. Not to forget the beneficial use of marijuana for pain control.
All started because Hearst wanted to protect his lumber holdings and paper mills from hemp. Of course the politicos could not give up the use of fear to influence us - "show the people 'Reefer Madness". MB

I had planned another item for today's Blog but the arrival of this article changed my mind. I have suggested before books by Chalmers Johnson. I started with "Blowback" and went on read "Sorrows of Empire". "Nemesis, The Last Days of the American Republic" is on my table to be next.
It is difficult to adequately express my fervent hope that you will read this article from Tomdispatch. I am certain if you do so you will agree to read at least "Blowback". The rest will probably follow.
Our country is at a critical threshold which if not addressed will bring a rapid end to our pursuit of happiness and liberty. Time has become so accelerated that the American Empire can be more speedily ended than those days of Rome. Do not ignore, as have so many in our present government, the rules from the past and the present. MB

Linda Sutton sent me this piece written by Brad Parker. It is well laid out explaining the current political position destroying what was the moderate Republican effectiveness. It touches on radical viscousness, and betrayal of the middle class. The 60's scare to this philosophy and the neocons reaction to that movement. His read on the drug war is right on. We see the use of slick slogans such as "Compassionate Conservative" as Madison Ave is used to sell their theories. The cave-in of the Democrats during the Clinton/Gore regime is also held responsible. Belief in the two party system will be strained as we move on the road to corporate/religious control. MB

There was no exit plan because the neocon empire builders never planned for an exit. As stated the genesis of this action came directly from the much secret Energy Report of 2001. Recall that is the report which Cheney refused to give any background details. Meanwhile besides countless bases and the largest embassy in the world, the entire war has been supported by countless underground activities. The Merchants of War are very pleased having our armament budget larger than the rest of the world combined. Our grandchildren will be fortunate if they are not still embroiled in Iraq. MB

I had planned another entry however this item from Linda Sutton is so surprising I felt we all would be interested. It does not not speak well for the Democratic Caucus. Worse he reports the lack of members of Congress knowing about what they are voting. To top it off note the rule mentioned in the last sentence. MB

"Militarism, Secrecy, and the End of the Republic" this is is the second book of a trilogy by the same author. Recently I reviewed the first "Blowback". As in the case of "Blowback" "The Sorrows of Empire" is well laid out with detail and excellent references. Joining George Washington and Dwight Eisenhower in their denunciation of militarism, Johnson lays out an impressive declaration of concern for America's-our movement of empire-as the New Rome. A NYTimes Bestseller. MB
