Truthdig - Scott Ritter: Calling Out Idiot America

Some tough language from Marine who knows what he writes about. The greatest tragedy of today's America is the increasing disconnect with the political scene. The problem of not getting enough into the spin which we are surrounded with to separate fact from fancy. Until all of us get into the picture to enable us to judge we are going to have great problems. Often we need such as Scott Ritter has written. MB

On Journalism And Democracy

Those of us who were fortunate enough to see Bill Moyer's PBS "Buying the War" received a short version of the most serious lies ever put upon our nation. Aided and abetted by a cowed and profit-centered media the Bush/Cheney government told one falsehood after another to convince the American public to support a war. False pretenses, inaccurate facts pulled the wool over the eyes of a public. A public not noted for its depth of historical or even current comprehension of the facts was easily swayed. And we cannot just blame the Republicans nor the Red States so in thrall to the vicious cabal of the fundamentalist radical right. We must ask why the Democrats allow such lies to go un-checked by a political scene that considers a stained dress lie (not our business) more important than lies which commit us to a war causing thousands of deaths and billions of treasure plus the contempt of most of the world. The freedom and openness of the press is the only way we can have a chance to get the straight stories. If Bush/Cheney are not impeached it will be another step to the demeaning of our Republic. It will rest on our political conscience and history. MB

Bill Moyers on Why the Press Bought the Iraq War

A root cause of our problems has been the lack of truth in reporting. It has not taken a Goebbels to brainwash the supporters of militarism in our country. It has happened because our politicians have seen fit to allow media consolidation to such an extent that freedom of the press has been seriously compromised. Government has been put in the position to be able call the tune of truth as reported to the public. How can we seriously understand what is going on when we get so few straight stories. The press is in thrall to the government. Whichever government is in power. We are lucky to have the Internet. Watch, that is the next target. MB

The Power of Nightmares-Video

These videos came in from my great friend, Jules. Suggest you watch them one per day. I confess I was so interested that I watched the first two in one sitting. Really great work, fascinating by BBC. Shows a real connection between the philosphical backgrounds of both sides of the current world of terrorism. MB PS:I found it best to see them well is to Save, Copy and Paste each to your Browser.

Raising Roberto (Again)

I couldn't stop reading this story. It made me alternate between sadness and anger. Finally I just felt deep sorrow for this young soldier. I also knew he was not the only one who is suffering thus. Not to mention the dedication of his Mother. What a terrible story resulting from this immoral, dishonest war. The best support we can give our warriors is to get them out of there. Let us not also forget the cost in tears and pain and treasure due to the large number of wounded from the Bush/Cheney War. And where is Paul Wolfowitz, et al? MB
