In terrorism fight, diplomacy gets shortchanged
This is only one side of the story. The Military-industrial establishment, aka the Merchants of Death do not get shortchanged. They just do better all the time making and selling to all clients ways of kiling one another. If they don't see an existing conflict they use all their formidable weapons of communication and persuasion to create the atmosphere for war. Frequently their clients are politicians who do not trouble to truly educate or lead in ways to use diplomacy instead force. Often, certainly in the case of America, the people do not know what acts are being done in their name. And of course the blowback hits them by surprize and they react. Whether we accept it or not most acts of terrorism against the US have their seeds of creation in acts by our government which were not and are not still clearly understood by most Americans. That is not to excuse the terrorists but to show that is the genisis of most of their acts. Force begets force. Take it down to local scenes and your own neighborhoods and apply similar situations and what will happen I promise you, as did Washington and Eisenhower, to mention two of many, the greatest danger to this world are those who make armaments. Listen, if one had a land mine factory would they not want to sell their goods. That is just the beginning. How about carriers, submarines, bombers, tanks, nuclear warheads, etc. Yes we have become the leading armorer of the world. Did the Political World Change in November?
It matters not what is your political persuasion 2008 is going to be the most important election of our lifetimes. It is going to influence the rest of our lives. More important is what effect it will have on the lives of our children and grandchildren. 2008 is going to be a major threshhold as was 1968. That was year of assassinatons, riots, a serious threat of civil war and the year "Hair" opened. This was the beginning of the end of the dream for peace in our time. The time when fear engendered by the riots of the streets around the Democratic Convention brought the dark force to power. The dream of The Movement fueled by the hippie philosophy started to unravel. None who were there will ever forget the promise and hope of that period. Good Way To Spend Some Time
You can be on the radical Left, the radical Right, or the Center. We all depend on the news. In the news we need the truth or explantions of positions pro and con, vigilant investigations. Without these tools we are in dreadful positions to know what is really happening. Media coverage of the news is in desperate shape. We are going to have to do something about it.
