Borchgrave posits a plan by Brent Scowcroft which is the best plan we have seen so far. It should follow the proposal by the Saudi King which was ignored by the current Bush administration. I would offer some modifications: Make Jerusalem an International City under the UN. It could be the capitol of both Israel and Palestine. Why not give the Golan Heights back or make them a UN area.
Until this problem is solved the people of this area, the Middle East and the World will know no peace. The Americans will not be trusted by Arabs. Jews are risking the rise of anti-Semit feelings due to Israel actions. Since my work for JFK I have warned of the Palestine problem being the precurser of WWIII. MB

My Comments:
Let's us recall that Iraq was carved out of the old Ottoman Empire and put together by British cartographers who had no real knowledge of the tribal structures. It was to be part of the promised reward to the Arabs who helped T.E.Lawrence destroy the Hejaz RR. (I know my facts as I was participating in the suppose reconstruction of the railroad-a promise by the US-never kept. Another betryal of the Arabs by the West.) No way could Iraq stay together without a dictator. Just as Tito kept Yugoslavia together. We will see Kurds in the North, Shias in the South and Sunnis in the Middle. It will exist as the Israel/Palestine quandry until the big boys put a stop to it. But why should they bother with all those oil profits.
