Campaign 2008: Head or heart – it’s a matter of timing
By Derrick Z. Jackson | Saturday, January 12, 2007 | The Boston Globe
“…FIRST, THE Obamenon whirlwind whipped up vastly white Iowa to publicly stand up in caucuses for a man who would be the first black president. Hillary Clinton responded in New Hampshire by morphing from cryogenic to cry-ogenic. A sympathetic tailwind of white women rescued the possibility of the first woman president. The result is a tie that is good for the process. Barack Obama forced Clinton to humanize herself. Clinton now forces Obama to demonstrate that his whirlwind is not hot air. Even John Edwards has been important in forcing the candidates to define themselves, even though his ‘fight for the middle class’ faded in New Hampshire. Has anyone noticed how much Obama and Clinton have both now adopted Edwards’s stock claim that the campaign is ‘personal’ for them?…”…BS
