As a long-time member of the 9/11 Truth movement, I agree in general with this. However, I think he makes three errors.
First, Bush & Co. did not plan and execute 9/11 solely to have an excuse to go to war for profit. Indeed, that was a secondary reason. The primary reason was having an event – a “New Pearl Harbor,” as the neocon document “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” put it in 2000 – that would help advance the broader neocon agenda, which required an event catastrophic enough to (i) allow the neocons to control the masses through fear (of another terrorist attack) by (a) creating a never-ending “war on terror” and (b) creating an external scapegoat (OBL, Al Qaeda, Islam), and (ii) provide an excuse to begin limiting or actually taking away freedoms, civil liberties and privacy in the name of an illusory “security.” The Patriot Act and the Department of Homeland Security were only the two most obvious outgrowths of this strategy.
Second, while it is true that, if the majority of Americans could wrap their minds around the idea that their own government could murder 3,000 of its own citizens, this would cause a major shock to the body politic, it would not necessarily cause the demise of the two-party system.
Finally, while I would certainly like to see more Americans wake up to the truth about 9/11 (as, by the way, a much larger number of Europeans already have…), the sad truth is that this is unlikely for the reason given above: it is simply too difficult for most people to accept that their government could wantonly murder 3,000 of its own citizens for political purposes. Even for people who do not trust Bush & Co., even for people who think the “official story” is full of holes, even for people who believe that the government is guilty of negligence and/or malfeasance re 9/11, taking the next step – getting their minds around the deliberate murder of 3,000 citizens – is just too much.
Peace.
