Uh…with respect. I was vaccinated as a child, as were most of you. Yet none of us are “the worse for wear”: all of the vaccines we got were safe and efficacious. As well, there is no disputing that vaccines have eradicated some diseases (e.g., polio) and all but eradicated others (measles et al).
So when, praytell, did vaccines become “the enemy?” When did the pseudo-science trump the science? When did conspiracy theories trump the realities of history and the fact of eradications?
I would find the fears and paranoia about vaccines amusing if it were not so sad.
Posted on 22-Feb-13 at 6:26 pm | Permalinkmaybe when in the span of a few decades rates of autism have gone from 1 in thousands to 1 in 82 (one in 21 boys in New Jersey) – vaccine schedules have radically increased the number is vaccines that kids receive today – waay more than when you were a kid, and with the state of regulation these days its hard to trust big pharma with what they put into them, mercury, other harmful chemicals etc – nobody wants to eliminate vaccines, or is arguing that vaccines aren’t usefeul, we just want to make them safe

Please encourage anyone with comments, which I thank them for, to invest the time into some study, while commenting. It is evident they have not become informed on this complex topic. They may actually know many people who are ‘worse for wear’. I would question eradication of diseases that were declining before vaccines were ever begun. Measles is striking those vaccinated in greater numbers than those who have not been, so is mumps, and pertussis! It is only the Big pharma propaganda repeated, over and over until it becomes a mantra, that is used to comment. This only illustrates, the self regulation of the people by the people through good programming.
I would encourage the reading the vaccine articles that have been posted to ‘Civic’ that are based in solid research from other countries.. The best overall investment of time, to get informed, is Dr Tent’s lecture which has been posted to MBCIVIC recently. It will begin with the polio vaccine and discuss vaccine evolution to today. It is an interesting and only 2 hours.
If paranoia and fears appear amusing, yet sad, consider how emotional decsion’s limit one’s ability to rationally approach an issue by being thoroughly informed. Let’s talk data not opinions. I truly hope that we may prevent anyone from being harmed. Is it not worth the discussion and study to protect oneself and their loved one’s?.

Actually, what is just as likely to have occurred is that the incidence of autism has not risen, but that better diagnosis of the condition has occurred “in the span of a few decades,” thus leading to what SEEMS like a new “epidemic” of autism – INDEPENDENT of vaccines.
And with respect, I am hardly a supporter of Big Pharma, and know all too well the lies and propaganda they spread, and the way in which they foist pharmaceuticals on the public, to the point where 2 in 5 adults and 1 in 5 children is on some form of anti-depressant, mood stabilizer, SRI, etc.
However, I would suggest that one needs to “pick one’s conspiracies” a bit more carefully. Autism vis-a-vis vaccines is simply pseudoscience. And since when does a chiropractor (even one with a degree in clinical nutrition) have anything to say about something that is COMPLETELY outside his professional expertise and purview?
BTW, MButler, you have it exactly backward: after the Wakefield/Lancet controversy, when people were scared to have their children vaccinated, the numbers of cases of measles and mumps went up because children were NOT being vaccinated.
You say that I need to do more research. I think it is the two of you who are being convinced by the pseudoscience and mass hysteria.
