As a member of Religious Leaders for 9/11 Truth, and a long-time member of the 9/11 Truth movement, I vigorously concur with this. And it is not just the otherwise laudable Amy Goodman and Democracy Now that tacitly permits the lie to continue. (As an aside, I asked Ms. Goodman about this at a 9/11 Truth event that she attended here in NYC. She claimed that her “hands were tied” re talking about 9/11 Truth because Democracy Now would almost certainly lose their funding. Hard to say to what degree that is or isn’t true…)
HuffPost does not permit ANY articles re 9/11 Truth – and does not even allow any comments or posts about it. They have a “zero tolerance” policy for the subject. (And this was true even prior to the merger…)
Even some of the alternative media sites cringe at (or even tacitly discourage) 9/11 Truth discussions.
IF the “truth” of 9/11 is other than the “official story” – i.e., if individuals and agencies of the U.S. government were complicit in the planning and/or execution of the 9/11 attacks – then “EVERYTHING WE KNOW” SINCE 9/11 IS BASED ON A LIE. This includes the Department of Homeland Security, the Patriot Acts, the invasion of Afghanistan, the invasion of Iraq and the summary execution of its leader, Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, enhanced interrogation (including waterboarding), extraordinary rendition, the Military Commissions Act, the TSA, control of the populace through fear, radically increased surveillance, wiretapping of American citizens and other invasions of privacy, the evisceration of habeas corpus and posse comitatus, and the shredding of the Constitution re civil liberties, civil rights and freedoms. And that is a SHORT list.
9/11 – and the TRUTH about its planning and execution – is among the critical issues of our time. Because unless and until we get the truth – and the American populace wakes up and smells the coffee re the fact that its own government murdered 3000 of its own citizens in order to advance a neocon socio-political agenda, both foreign and domestic – there can be no true progress in the body politic. It is the truth of 9/11 – and possibly ONLY the truth of 9/11 – that has the capacity to “re-unite” polarized groups: the Truth movement and the antiwar movement, the Tea Party and the Occupy movement, etc.
9/11 tore us apart. The truth can bring us back together.
