Civic Commentary: Ian Alterman

As many have probably read by now, the massive two-year investigative report on the financial crisis has been released. And it mimics the 9/11 Commission Report in a truly sad and frustrating way: although it finds plenty of blame to go around, it seems that no specific heads will roll, and no one will be prosecuted.

Should we be surprised that 9/11 and the economic crisis – the two defining events of our time, which have unarguably led to almost every bad thing we are seeing right now (wars, economy, shredding of the Constitution (including civil liberties) in the name of security, etc.) – have been whitewashed away?

I would ask “where is the outrage,” but it has become frighteningly clear that the populace of the U.S. has become dangerously apathetic, not least as a result of government propaganda and fear-mongering in our so-called “post-9/11” world.

Peace.
