Where We Went Wrong
By Dick Armey | Sunday, October 29, 2006 | The Washington Post
In the name of understanding the minds of our opponents, I offer this analysis of Republican failures by a powerful and extremely smart Republican: Dick Armey, who was House majority leader from 1995 to 2003 (until he was pushed aside by ‘The Hammer’ Tom DeLay and his neocon Christian Taliban goons), is currently chairman of the think tank FreedomWorks. His is a mind worth understanding, and his ideas are surprisingly close to ours in terms of what went wrong, and how. It is fascinating to me that this man, one of the authors of the hugely successful Contract with America, does not even mention DeLay by name, although much of the article is about DeLay’s errors. If this sea change in Republican fortunes translates into a successful campaign for the Democrats, despite Republican sabotage, then we will be sure that Armey is correct: the formidable and well organized Republicans were brought down by the timeless and classic tragic flaw and fatal error of rulers since Ancient Greece, HUBRIS!!!…BS
