A thought-provoking essay by Eugene Hickok, currently working as the Bradley fellow in Education at The Heritage Foundation (think tank, supposedly non-partisan) and Senior Policy Director at Dutko Worldwide. He was deputy Secretary of Education during President George W. Bush’s first term. He thinks the current system of public education has become an arm of government that lacks the wherewithal to accomplish the high ideals of the No Child Left Behind laws, and he puts forward some very sensible ideas for reform…BS
