Congress’s Sorry Session

The 109th Congress has much more than the Foley Page Scandal to be ashamed of. They have worked even fewer days and passed even fewer pieces of legislation than the famous 1950’s that Truman angrily labeled “the Do Nothing Congress”. Broder reviews the many ways this congress failed, and it is very even handed politically. For example:

“Some of the session’s failures may be laid at the feet of the minority Democrats, who used parliamentary tactics, particularly in the Senate, to thwart some Republican proposals. But most of the difficulty can be found on the Republican side of the aisle, where ideological differences and simple political resistance proved to be a persistent problem.”

In other words, there is plenty of blame and disappointment to go around…BS
