   What bothers me is that Obama has been such a maddeningly inconsistent president: on some issues and specifics, he is very good, and sometimes superb. On others, I cannot even begin to fathom his thinking or approach, vis-a-vis either his base of support or even the realities of a situation.

   Yet given that he has been in office only nine months, it is possible that many (including myself) are judging too harshly, based on the high (and perhaps unrealistic) expectations we had.
