How Bank Chiefs have benefited from the taxpayers
Even though they all claim not to have taken bonuses in 2008 their option packages and shareholdings have rocketed in value this year thanks to the taxpayer. Dick Fuld’s Lehman shares, one one point worth over $1bln are now worthless, because his bank was not bailed out by the taxpayers. One can have no sympathy for him at all but one can feel just a little annoyed that the others, who are no better than him, have made such windfalls. This is an article from today’s FT, hardly a strident anti-Wall Street left wing pamphlet.
