With No Ideas, the GOP Seeks to Scare

Today’s Meyerson column should make us all feel better with the approaching election and the strong possibility that the Republican majority, which has ruled for 12 increasingly awful years, will lose its grip on power. Just a few years ago, the Neocons trumpeted that they were the party of ideas. Now the trends, and the balance of new ideas, have swung back the other way.
In Meyerson’s words: “What’s a party to do when its high road leads nowhere but down? ” The privatization of Social Security tanked when its numbers never added up; Iraq turned into a bloody sectarian civil war and proved to only endanger us further; Osama remains at large. Afghanistan may fall to a reincarnated Taliban. About all they can do this election season is try to scare people (a third time) and slime their oponents. It’s as though the entire party had morphed into a crowd of Swift Boat Veterans…BS
