Obama’s Reaganesque challenge

When Reagan took office, the aftermath of Vietnam and Watergate, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and the Iranian hostage crisis had left Americans feeling demoralized, cynical about their government, and anxious about the future. ‘America in retreat’ was the watchword.

Today we face comparable insecurities about our position in the world, but their genesis is quite different. Now it is the United States, and not the Soviet Union, fighting a long, drawn-out war in Afghanistan. And now our standing in the world has been badly damaged by our unilateral actions in Iraq, and a seemingly go-it-alone policy on global warming and climate change….”…BS
