There is no doubt that we are witnessing the end of America’s financial pre-eminence, and there will have to be some fundamental changes in financial strategy. I note that the writer who was also part of a free-spending, Regan administration does not have any suggestions on this crucial issue.
Posted on 22-Mar-08 at 9:52 am | PermalinkI am also surprised that the fact that half America’s budget goes to the military is not mentioned. This does mean that America still has pre-eminence in arms technology. As a rule of thumb, the US military think that it would take any other nation ten years to catch up, and that’s with America’s military technology standing still.
The fact is that the world cannot afford for America to hit the skids, either financialy or militarily, and there are many ‘hidden’, mostly overseas earnings which are not part of the writer’s computations.
Nevertheless, major changes are necessary and this article is of no help in that respect.
