The 27/7 media has had a huge impact on our societies “all in” attitude about government. People hang on the edge of their seats watching election night, biting their finger nails, and waiting for their “teams” results.

The deluge of media in our lives promotes a sports fan-like mentality. I hear people on the news say, “If my guy doesn’t win, I’m moving to another country.” Frankly, if you think that way, you should move to another country because that thinking is bad for democracy.

In my life of 50+ years, government has not effected my life at all. I wake, eat, work, exercise, have fun, read, watch TV, travel, and sleep.

I’m well aware and thankful that government has provided an environment for me to live in a safe place. On a minute-by-minute basis, government has nothing to do with how I live my life.

Government has a very minimal effect on our all our lives expect when you live in this fear that government can effect your life. Voting for one party over another has very little effect on our daily lives. I’ll wake and do what I do no matter who is in the white house or congress.

I totally get why this fear is rampant in this country. Politicians get on the TV create the fear. Every election, politicians tell you the next four years of your life is going to be better than the last four years if you vote for me. Every election, every four years, every politician repeats that mantra… but it’s not true.

There are many cases in history where government has become evil to the society, but that’s not going to happen in the U.S. anytime soon.

The articles is about people being taught to hate their government. That premise also has a bit of subtext. We should love or at least like our government. Why?

If you live in Boston, you are taught to hate the New York Yankees. So what.

Maybe politicians have tilted the scales in to this fear mongering. I don’t know. I just really don’t think government effects our lives to the level that people are putting so much energy debating who should run the country. Like the example of the sport teams, it’s really doesn’t matter. Nothing changes.

Don’t get me wrong. I vote. I don’t like the wars we’ve entered in my lifetime. I think the public schools could be a lot better for the money being spent. The roads are mostly very good. Firemen come to your house and save you when your house is on fire. The police catch most of the criminals.

Government is too insignificant in our lives to love or hate it.
