Corporate Government, not for Abe

Corporate Government, not for Abe

Government of, by and for:  corporations?  Not what Abraham Lincoln had to say.  At Gettysburg in 1863 President Lincoln gave a speech for the ages to dedicate a cemetery for the fallen soldiers of the Civil War.  He said they died so that a “nation might live”.  He said that people would not remember what was being said that day.  He was right about some people.  These men’s deaths  were about a “government of the people, by the people, for the people, (that) shall not perish from the earth”.
Unfortunately, a majority of the nation’s Supreme Court forgot these words.  That majority, mostly members of a little known conservative organization of lawyers called theFederalist Society, said in Citizen’s United that we have instead a government of the corporation, by the corporation, for the corporation.
Did those soldiers die in vain?  This is one time I agree with the Teabaggers: let us take this country back.
