the outcome of the House vote on the health care bill is going to come down to how many liberals vote against it because it doesn't have a public option, and how many blue dogs vote against it because they're in tough GOP-leaning districts .. Jane has a score sheetRahm never worries about the progressives because they have no financial base and they’re in strong Democratic districts, so they risk a lot less voting for a bailout than those in close seats. This time around, there may be enough progressives who are willing to join with the Blue Dogs and vote against a bill with a mandate, but no public option alternative, to push it over the top ... The Democrats in the House know that they are looking at a 2010 bloodbath over this vote, and neither progressives nor Blue Dogs will pay a price for voting “no†on a bill that forces Americans to pay almost as much to private corporations as they do in federal income tax, with no public option as an alternative.. read more

An Important Cause
Five years ago, the world witnessed the impact of the tsunami that swept destruction across coastal regions of the Indian Ocean. The waves killed more than 230,000 people within minutes of the magnitude 9.0 earthquake. The results devastated the future of the survivors, leaving thousands of children as orphans and stealing away the livelihood of tens of thousands of families. One survivor of the tsunami, Petra Nemcova, saw her experience as an opportunity to help provide a strong future for the many other survivors of the tsunami… in particular the children. Since then, Petra began the Happy Hearts Fund (www.happyheartsfund.org), which has rebuilt schools in Thailand, partnered in sponsoring the education of more than 150 tsunami orphans, and aided in the development of the Community Tsunami Early-warning Center (CTEC) in Sri Lanka, the first tsunami center in the Indian Ocean (www.communitytsunamiwarning.com). In this, the fifth anniversary of the tsunami, the Happy Hearts Fund is running a campaign to assist with these needs and many more than have been created by natural disasters that since taken place in Indonesia, South America, and New Orleans. May I invite you to take a moment to visit the Happy Hearts Fund Campaign, “Bring Happiness Back!†to consider making a contribution today? Democracy Now: The Man Who Conned the Pentagon
In December 2003, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge warned of “near-term attacks that could either rival or exceed what we experienced on September 11.†He claimed the information came from “credible sources.†But a new report in the latest issue of Playboy by investigative journalist Aram Roston shows that the source was a man who convinced the military and the Bush administration that the TV network Al Jazeera was transmitting secret messages to al-Qaeda sleepers - Democracy Now
