AlterNet: The Feds Are Addicted to Pot — Even If You Aren’t

Even if JC came down smoking a joint this would not change the political realities - there is too much money in the drug war. The police don't want to stop the war, the prison business depends on the drug war and the dealers want it to continue. It's the public who are being ignored. mb

NYT Op-Eds (3)

"Washington’s assumption that the economic recovery will trickle down to workers is wrong and unacceptable. It’s time for an emergency jobs program" (Krugman); "The lack of confidence in government has turned many older voters rightward. Younger voters have not followed. But even they will want results eventually" (Douthat); "By acknowledging that there were mixed messages sent to Russia after the Berlin Wall fell, Washington would strengthen U.S. relations with Moscow" (Guest Op-Ed)

An Open Letter to President Obama from Michael Moore

Moore...
When we elected you we didn't expect miracles. We didn't even expect much change. But we expected some. We thought you would stop the madness. Stop the killing. Stop the insane idea that men with guns can reorganize a nation that doesn't even function as a nation and never, ever has. Stop, stop, stop! For the sake of the lives of young Americans and Afghan civilians, stop. For the sake of your presidency, hope, and the future of our nation, stop. For God's sake, stop ... You DON'T have to do this. You can be a profile in courage. You can be your mother's son.

Free 2 Work website – check before you go Xmas Shopping

Free2Work.org is a new site that "seeks to enable local and global solutions to end modern-day slavery and mass atrocities in our time by pursuing a creative combination of research, policy, and public pressure" - they monitor and rate companies like Wal*Mart, the Gap, Disney etc on their labor practices.
