MUST-SEE VIDEO: Zeitgeist: Addendum

The third and best iteration of this film by far. Part I is a history of the Fed and U.S. economics - "Economics 101" as you've never seen it before. If you only watch that segment (from ~minute 5 to ~minute 25), you will be stunned. But the entire 2-hour production is well worth the time of any serious socio-political person.

NYT Op-Eds (3)

"Even as Washington tries to rescue the economy, the nation will be reeling from the actions of 50 Herbert Hoovers — state governors who are slashing spending in a time of recession" (Krugman); "As 2008 and the Bush presidency conclude, Iraq has settled into a kind of violent semi-peace. But there are still big challenges" (Guest Op-Ed; see accompanying graphic); "I look forward to Barack Obama’s inauguration with a surprising degree of hope and good cheer" (Kristol)

NYT Editorials (2)

"There is no doubt that President-elect Barack Obama has chosen a labor secretary who could be a transformative force in a long-neglected arena. The question is whether he will let her"; and "For the first time in four decades, a researcher has repeated the Milgram experiment to find out whether, after all we have learned in the last 45 years, Americans are still as willing to inflict pain out of blind obedience" (They are.)

AlterNet: Karl Rove Destroyed My Life

A classic example of government criminality used for political ends. Rove deserves to go to jail. The prior example is the conviction and incarceration of Judge Otto Kerner (former Gov. of Illinois) by Nixon and Mitchell. They went after him due to his Commission on Civil Rights. MB

David Sirota: Fox News: “Historians Pretty Much Agree” That FDR Prolonged the Great Depression

Great ready for consistent replay of these lies. The Radical Right will do anything to spoil the reputation of FDR and what he did to save this country. Yes, he made some errors, mostly later one, without his early and major moves, think of where we would have been. MB

NYT Op-Eds (5+)

A Tom Friedman must-read ("We have got to stop 'taking off the table' the gasoline tax, the tool that would add leverage to everything we want to do at home and abroad"); Frank Rich on Obama-Warren ("Barack Obama’s disingenuous defense of his tone-deaf invitation to the Rev. Rick Warren is an asterisk to the joyous inaugural of our first black president"); Nick Kristof on Obama-Darfur ("Sudan fears the Obama administration, and now for the first time in years, there’s a real chance of ousting President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and ending his murderous regime"); Tim Egan on the Bush-Cheney historical revisionism ("As President Bush fogs up history’s rearview mirror, Barack Obama does have a clean slate. He deserves none of the pre-emptive blame his critics are trying to assign to him"); and a Times Op-Ed series on issues Obama will face continues with "The American Agenda."
