NYT Op-Eds (3)

"Sooner or later, American consumers were going to have to pull in their belts. But the timing of the new sobriety is deeply unfortunate" (Krugman); "A mobility project would dovetail with the energy initiatives both presidential candidates have offered. And it could, in the long term, rebalance this economy" (Brooks); "For my family, Oct. 31 has always been significant. Not because it’s Halloween, but because that’s the day we arrived as refugees to a free part of the world" (Guest Op-Ed)

NYT (3): National Politics

State by state, lawyers are already preparing for a 2000 election-type debacle, with Ohio leading the way; Colorado restores voters to election rolls; and ethnic profiling prior to the '04 elections.

NYT Op-Eds (4)

"This 2008 election is a milestone and may put a black man in the White House. That creates an opportunity for an adult conversation about the complexities of race" (Kristof); "In no other country could Barack Obama have risen so far and so fast. Such boundless possibility is what America once stood for and can stand for again" (Cohen); a humorous quiz from Collins; and a guest op-ed on the "blindness" of "mortgage justice."

In NYC, homelessness is way up (and this is a national trend); what happened to AIG's cash?; and - oy vey! - "Joe the Plumber" becomes a brand, and gets a manager.
