The hottest heads call for execution under Shariah law. Cooler heads are prevailing. But ANY punishment here is absurd, given that (i) it was the children who chose the name, (ii) Muhummad is the commonest name in Islam, and (iii) a teddy bear is not an object of worship (i.e. idol).

As I suggested in an earlier comment on this case, it should lead to a broader and more open discussion about the imposition of Shariah law. Thankfully, that is exactly what is occurring.

In this case, Shariah law is being tempered by Western moral values – exactly the correct approach.
