Karl Rove, adviser to President Bush, to resign

By Peter Baker & Debbi Wilgoren | Monday, August 13, 2007 | The Washington Post

Rove’s departure is the end of an era in modern GOP politics, the conclusion of 14 years that began with advising the son of the last Republican to hold the White House, then guiding that son first to the Texas governor’s mansion and, ultimately, to the White House. Along the way, Rove became the most prominent political strategist of his generation and a bete noire for liberals and even a number of conservative critics.

Well, of course this is good news of a sort. But let’s not break out the champagne just yet. Remember: Rove was the “election” guy, and Bush cannot be elected again. So he would need to be in the “public sector” in order to help other obnoxious Republicans get elected. Second, just because he is resigning does not mean he will not remain an “adviser” to Bush in some capacity of another.

    Peace.
