Lessons from JFK on Power and Diplomacy

The aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (‘Big John’) is on the front page of today’s Boston Globe, making a final visit to Boston Harbor before it is decommissioned. Visitors will be welcomed aboard. Graham Allison, Director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and a Professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, imagines President Kennedy confronting today’s world crises, with a special focus on the balance between military force and imaginative diplomacy. JFK said it best: “We should never negotiate out of fear, but we should never fear to negotiate.”…BS
