A way to soothe the Middle East
By H.D.S. Greenway | Tuesday, January 30, 2007 | The Boston Globe
Writing from Davos, Switzerland, where the World Economic Forum is meeting, Greenway talks us through a bold proposal announced by King Abdullah II of Jordan: in exchange for full recognition of Israel, Israel withdraws to its pre-1967 borders, settlements and all. The Palestinian crisis is an open sore in the region, a “fire starter”, and a peaceful two-state solution would have multiple positive effects on the Middle East. It won’t solve the Iraq mess, but it would remove the region’s most emotional issue and reduce Iranian influence in Arab lands. More than that, though: This proposal is not just another gust of wind, kike so many other proposals for the Palestinian conflict: this proposal has been signed and endorsed by the leaders of all the nations of the Arab League. Stay tuned, we must and will follow this story…BS
