Hugo Chavez UN Speech

Chavez opens his speech with…”The devil [i.e. Bush] is right at home. The devil, the devil himself, is right in the house…And the devil came here yesterday. Yesterday the devil came here. Right here. [crosses himself] And it smells of sulfur still today.”

Not the kind of rhetoric that’s going to win a diplomacy contest .. but you have to ask yourself – if you were poor and lived in a Central American country subject to the west’s neo-liberal policies that have driven your country into poverty, or perhaps a family member has been “disappeared” for opposing an oppressive right wing dictator that the US supports and/or placed in power .. wouldn’t you want to use the same language? Feel the same disgust?

That said .. and keeping in mind these are democracies we’re talking about .. If history of the last 150 years is an indicator I can only see the situation with Venezuela ending badly. Evo Morales of Bolivia, with a more measured approach, has a better chance of implementing socialist reforms that will help the poor in his country and create a strong middle class .. he may even stay in power.

… Maybe not in keeping with the best showing of diplomacy but down to earth and truthful from his vantage. He is a Catholic and wasn’t kidding.

Whether the American people get it or don’t – I’m glad it was said. It shows to the American’s another World view; that perhaps GW is a baffone and in some circles, I do believe they share in the remarks by Presidente’ Hugo Chavez.

You must also realize how smart and articultate these gentlemen are – Hugo, Irannian President and Others. Chavez’s reform in his country is outstanding. I’m sure the U.S. was doing some meddling with his oil reserves but he stood his ground and now produces more bio-fuel than anybody on this continent.

So, what’s wrong when someone uses his speach to rebuke a man, many believe to be guilty of war crimes. Long live God and His Son, Jesus Christ, the Light over Dark – even the Satan called Devil.

We don’t like it???? – then take it to court and let the tribunal has it out!!!!
