It's great to hear the enthusiasm for a version that includes some of
the original cast members. What ideas I have I will share. To overcome
any rights problems, re-assess some of the points of the show that need
it and to add some new songs, I would base the show around the tribe at
a campfire, having grown older, reminiscing about various songs and
re-enacting them, comparing what happened then with what is happening
now. In this format it would bring back the best material of the
original show, allowing for relevant dialogue leading up to the song.
After doing the song would come the comparison of then to now, which
would allow for mentions of ecological as well as political destruction.
The tribe could also make the point that all the drugs were a symptom of
the need for change in the youth of the 60's and how destructive they
ended up becoming. In the format of "Hair We Are Again" the rights
problems would be minimal as re-doing an old song needs no permission.
This 'reprise' would be in the same way Abba and Frankie Valli and the
Four Seasons have repackaged the old material into a story, and in this
package concept it would be a saleable commodity Michael. Also it would
be possible to introduce what happened to an individual tribe member
since the late 60's and how life has treated them. I bet there'd be some
good stories there! Anyway, I know some of you will be up at arms with
the slightest idea of changing anything, so I'll tell you in advance
that I won't be drawn in to any confrontations about it, and just am
presenting an idea for consideration.
Best of luck bringing the enthusiasm to fruition.
In the meantime a new song that might be akin to a Hair song is on the
home page of my site as a non-denominational seasons greeting card that
plays. If you paste it into an email using your html setting, the
recipient just clicks on it and it will play the song and the project is
linked to UNICEF to support the kids affected by the Kashmir earthquake.
It's getting cold there now, so the last thing we want to see is
children dieing of hunger and cold. I hope some of you will use it as
you Seasons Greeting card.
Anyway, it would be nice to see some feedback on "Hair We Are Again".
