  US Economy Facts
  
  1)  US corporate layoffs were up 22% in November and 964,232 jobs  were cut this year, which was up 3.6% from the year-to-date total a  year ago.
  2)  Corporate CEOs who sent jobs overseas last year received an average pay increase of 46%.
  3)  Citigroup's CEO was paid $111,000. a day in 2004
  4)  Delta Airlines gave its outgoing CEO a $16 million retirement package while announcing the layoff of 7,000 workers. 
  5)  Pay for corporate CEOs increased 15% last year while pay for workers increased 4%.
  6)  Delphi Corporation paid its CEO $5,959,138. and plans to lay off 6,000 workers.
  7)  The number of US billionaires rose last year from 262 to 313  while 1.3 million more Americans fell below the poverty line.
  8)  Bank of America paid its CEO $20 million last year and announced it will cut 4,500 jobs.
  9) Ousted CEO of Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines, negotiated a life-long pension of $1.3 million per year.
  10) Tiffany & Co. reported a 12% increase in holiday sales as the  Agriculture Dept. reported a 26% increase of American families going  hungry.
  11)  Combat pay for our soldiers in Iraq is $7.50 a day.
  12)  The Senate rejected attempts to raise the minimum wage from  $5.15 an hour for the first time in 8 years, while a study showed that  if the minimum wage had increased at the same rate as corporate CEO pay  since 1990, it would now be $22.50 an hour.
  13)  Viacom paid its top 3 execs. $160 million in 2004. Real wages in 2004 fell at the fastest rate in 14 years.
  14)  Hewlett-Packard welcomed a new chief information officer with  a pay package worth at least $15.3 million, including a $2.2 million  signing bonus & a $1 million "relocation" allowance. The CEO who  was fired from H-P received a $21.4 million severance package. H-P  announced it will layoff 14,500 workers to "save costs." 
  15) Kimberly-Clark tripled its CEO's bonus to $2.4 million, and announced it will lay off 6,000 workers.
  16)  United Health, Gillette, 3M, Home Depot, Pfizer, Lilly,  Electronic Data System, and Hormel gave CEOs pay increases that ranged  from 12% to 86%, while wage increases for average workers lagged behind  the 2.7% inflation rate of 2004.
  17)   The wealth of the 400 richest Americans increased 13%  last year while the average earning for workers increased 2.7%.
  18)  The average American CEO earned 431 times the pay of the  average worker last year, up from 301 times the pay of the average  worker in 2004.
  19)  Under Bush's tax cuts, the 400 taxpayers with the highest  incomes now pay income, Medicare and Social Security taxes at the same  rate as people making $50,000 to $75,000. Those earning more than $10  million a year now pay a lesser share of their income in these taxes  than those making $100,000 to $200,000. 
  20)  Senate Republicans voted down an amendment to authorize an  investigation into charges of war profiteering by Halliburton and other  companies.
