So Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman thinks that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is "brimming with anger" and is therefore less electable ("Calling Senator Clinton 'Angry,' G.O.P. Chairman Attacks," Feb. 6). Au contraire!

I, too, am angry. And according to almost every poll done in the past few weeks, so are at least half the American people. Angry at Bush Administration lies, spin and obfuscation re WMDs and ties between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda in order to support an aggressive, unprovoked, pre-emptive regime change and war in Iraq. Angry at Bush Administration lies, spin and obfuscation re open-ended detention, without access to family or legal representation, of "enemy combatants" at Guantanamo, and prisoner torture at Abu Gharib and elsewhere. Angry at Bush Administration stonewalling in providing documents requested by Congress regarding everything from possibly illegal eavesdropping on American citizens to failures re inaction with regard to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Given that these are only a few of many reasons to be angry at the Bush Administration, and the Republicans in general, Mr. Mehlman would be well advised that there has never been a better time for an angry candidate to get elected.
