Schiavo's case lands in Congress.  In Florida one of the issues  against what 
was called "Terrie's Law" was the government overriding personal  wishes or 
wishes of the families or guardian(s). Fortunately the state court  rightly 
found the bill passed in Florida as unconstitutional.  While there  is a need for 
laws in any civilized society, we need to be aware of the  potential for 
abuse of the laws and the potential for laws to take away rights  of the 
individual or those appointed to watch over them.  We are becoming  more and more of a 
society that expects government to tell us what we can and  cannot do, and in 
the case of a court-appointed guardian, they cannot fulfill  their roles, 
however distasteful those roles may be when the issue becomes a  political tennis 
ball in order to pander for votes.  As far as guardians  abusing their 
positions of trust as determined by the courts, there are already  laws in place to 
provide proper punishment, including incarceration and fines,  for abuse of the
