TOURISTS AMONG DEAD IN TURKISH BUS BOMBING
WebPosted Sat Jul 16 08:43:35 2005

---A bomb exploded on a minibus in a Turkish resort town, killing at
least five people, including British and Irish tourists, and wounding
13 others.

The explosion on Saturday morning tore the roof and sides from the bus as
it passed through a town square in Kusadasi, which is located on the
Aegean Sea about 70 kilometres from the city of Izmir.

Britain's Foreign Office said one British citizen was killed and five
others were hurt, while an Irish government spokesperson said an Irish
woman was killed.

At least two Turks were killed in the blast, which occurred at about
10:30 a.m. local time.

Ottawa said it didn't appear that any Canadians were among the dead
and injured.

The Anatolia news agency said a suicide bomber detonated a bomb that was
sitting in her lap. Police officials didn't confirm the report.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Kurdish militants have been behind recent bombings in the area, and
leftist and Islamic insurgents are also active in the country.
