The Good, The Bad, and Rumsfeld

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A12518-2005Jan15.html

(excerpt)

The Army is engaged in a bureaucratic brawl with Defense Secretary Donald H.
Rumsfeld over how to organize troops for "nation-building," a growing
problem for the military as it settles in for lengthy occupations in Iraq,
Afghanistan and possibly other countries.

Rumsfeld wants to shift thousands of civil affairs troops from the Special
Operations Command to the regular Army on the theory that the service needs
to do better at security and stabilization. This comes as he is pushing
other components of the elite Special Operations Command -- such as Navy
SEALs and the Army Delta Force -- to focus on aggressive actions against
terrorists and other missions.

========

I'm tired of these people. As if my feelings change anything. By now,
anyone with a brain has figured out that people like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Etc
simply don't have our best interests at heart as a country. What to do
about removing them remains the problem, as does who on god's earth to
replace them with. Even the people under them know they are leftovers from
the Cold War era. But even they can't do anything about them except "obey
orders". That basically leaves us at the mercy of an out of control head at
the Pentagon with people like Halliburton etc at the reins with the expanded
war against America itself rolling right along burying any rights to privacy
etc along the way domestically as quickly as they can manage. Yes, yes, I
know, the complete takeover of a citizenry is always heralded by instilling
endless fear and then calmly instigating death-lock security as an answer to
everything, although general Americans seem not to notice this in their
everyday doings for some odd reason. Perhaps because they're not even, if
rarely, ever informed about the small print in progress. If this is not yet
the full nightmare itself, then the prologue is killing me already. The
future is not pretty. That thought continues to upset me.
