[Mb-civic] Letter

There were no hanging chads, no contested touch-screen voting records, no legal challenges, no Supreme Court cases. Yet this election was stolen just as sure as if there had been. And it was stolen in a far more repulsive way.

It was stolen on everything that 9/11 represented - and didn't. It was stolen on the continuous use of fear by the Bush administration, including useless color-coded threat levels, to keep us on edge; it was stolen by the undertaking of an unprovoked, pre-emptive war against a sovereign nation - one which has already cost the lives of over 1,100 Americans and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis - based on flimsy evidence that may well have been deliberately doctored, but in any event turned out to be completely false; and, most despicably, it was stolen on the backs of the victims of 9/11 and their families, and their pain and grief, as this administration used 9/11 in every possible way in its relentless march toward a second term.

For a country purporting to export "democracy" to Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere, this is a truly sad day for democracy right here in America.
